Kara Hunter’s practice focuses on insurance coverage and litigation, where she represents insurance companies in complex coverage disputes and related litigation. Kara brings a thoughtful and detail‑oriented approach to advocating for clients while maintaining clear and consistent communication throughout the life of a case.

Prior to joining MGC, Kara practiced with several litigation firms where she handled environmental insurance coverage matters, toxic tort litigation, food and beverage litigation, insurance defense matters, products liability matters, premises liability matters and regulatory compliance. She is a diligent litigator who has experience in both state and federal court systems. Her diverse background allows her to address complex factual and legal issues with a comprehensive and practical perspective.

Kara has a dedicated experience in complex environmental coverage and litigation matters, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, with an Energy and Environmental Law Area of Concentration. She has advised clients on exposure implications involving the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), the Comprehensive Environmental Resource Recovery and Liability Act (CERCLA) and emerging contaminants of concern, including PFAS. Kara has represented clients in long-tail environmental claims, cost recovery and contribution claims, natural resource damages actions and coverage of reinsurance indemnity claims. 

While in law school, Kara served as a law clerk for several plaintiff’s firms throughout the Greater Pittsburgh Area. During her second year of law school, she served as a legal intern at Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services, where she provided legal assistance to individuals, groups and nonprofits that were affected by environmental harms. During her third year of law school, Kara served as a Certified Legal Intern at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law’s Environmental Law Clinic, where she worked on a range of environmental law issues, including regulatory and legislative advocacy, public outreach and client counseling.

In her personal time, Kara enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling and volunteering within her community.
