While the legal profession tends to focus on formal writing—drafting extensive briefs and contracts—most of the day-to-day writing of lawyers is informal: emails, texts and IMs. Defensive client communications are absolutely key from both a client service and risk management perspective, so drafting clear and concise informal communications are a vital part of a lawyer’s practice. This webinar will explore audience-specific and media-specific approaches in crafting an email, text or IM, including the tone to use, word choice and level of explanation that may be required. The discussion will be framed by the ABA Model Rules of Professional conduct and we’ll explore the applicable rules to develop simple practices.
